Troubleshooting

Scanning

Schubox didn’t find the edges of my print

The surface, contrast, and fixing the crop yourself.

Schubox finds a print by the surface around it. For the best results:

  • Lay the print on a plain surface. Carpet, a patterned cloth or a crowded album page makes the edges harder to find.
  • Leave a little of the surface showing on all four sides.
  • Choose a surface that contrasts with the print: a light border on a dark table, or a darker print on a light one.

To fix a crop, tap the photo to edit it and drag a corner or an edge — it snaps to the print’s edge. If Schubox kept the whole picture instead of cropping it, tap Cropped for the automatic crop. As shot keeps the entire picture.

My scans are blurry

Macro mode, distance and light.

If your iPhone switches to Macro mode, move the phone a little farther from the print. The regular camera often gives a sharper result for printed photos.

You can also turn off Allow macro lens in Schubox Settings (the gear on the home screen), so every photo uses the main camera.

Hold the phone parallel to the print, keep it steady, and use good, even light.

There’s glare on my glossy prints

Light from the side, not from above.

Glossy prints reflect whatever light is above them. Turn off overhead lights and use daylight from a window to one side, or tilt the print slightly away from the light. Even, indirect light works best.

Live scan doesn’t take the picture

What it waits for.

Live scan takes the picture by itself once it has found the print and the phone is steady. Keep the whole print in view with a little surface around it, and hold still for a moment.

On a crowded or patterned surface, use Scan photos instead and take each picture yourself.

Editing

A photo is turned the wrong way

Rotate one, or several at once.

Tap the photo to edit it, then tap Rotate — each tap turns it a quarter turn. To turn several photos at once, tap Select on the Review wall, choose them, and tap rotate in the bar at the bottom.

The white border was removed, or kept, and I wanted the opposite

Change it for one photo, or for every new photo.

In the magic wand menu, No border removes a print’s white border, and Add/fix border adds an even border or replaces an uneven one.

To choose for every photo from now on, use Keep the white border in Settings.

I changed a setting, but my photos didn’t change

Settings apply to new photos.

Settings apply to every photo you take or import from then on. Photos already in the batch aren’t changed. To change those, select them on the Review wall and use the wand.

Saving and finding your photos

I saved my photos but can’t find them in Photos

They’re filed by the date you gave them.

Schubox saves each photo with the date you set, and Photos files it by that date. A photo dated 1975 appears among your 1975 photos, not with today’s — scroll back to that year in your library.

On iOS 18 and later, Photos also gathers everything you’ve just saved from other apps in the Recently Saved collection.

My photos show the wrong date

Set the date before you save.

Your photo library uses the date saved inside each photo, so set the date before you save. Set a date on the home screen before you shoot and every photo in the batch gets it, or tap the date icon to change one or more photos.

A caption that names a date, like “Christmas 1975”, can set the date for you.

Already saved with the wrong date? In Apple Photos, open the photo, swipe up, and tap Adjust beside the date.

Schubox can’t save to Photos

Check its Photos permission.

Open the iPhone Settings app, tap Apps (on iOS 18 and later), then Schubox ▸ Photos, and choose Add Photos Only.

Schubox only ever adds photos to your library. It can’t see the photos already there.

Schubox can’t use the camera

Check its Camera permission.

Open the iPhone Settings app, tap Apps (on iOS 18 and later), then Schubox, and turn on Camera.

I deleted a photo by mistake

Recover it from Deleted.

In Review, tap ••• and choose Deleted. Select the photos you want back and tap Recover. Your last 100 deleted photos are kept there, including photos from a batch you deleted.

My batch is full

Up to 50 photos at a time.

A batch holds up to 50 photos. Save the batch, then choose Delete batch from the ••• menu in Review and start the next stack. A deleted batch goes to Deleted, so you can still recover it.

Your photos and privacy

If I delete Schubox, do I lose my photos?

Not the ones you’ve saved.

Photos you’ve saved to Apple Photos or shared to another app are safe — they’re in your library, not in Schubox.

Anything still in a batch you haven’t saved is deleted along with the app, and it isn’t in your iCloud backup. Save your batch first.

Do I need an account? Are my photos uploaded?

No, and no.

Schubox has no account and no cloud storage. Your photos never leave your iPhone until you save or share them where you choose. Read our Privacy Policy.

Which iPhones does Schubox work on?

iOS 17 or later.

Schubox works on any iPhone running iOS 17 or later.
